Type SL Davy Crockett, the 19thC American folk hero.
The puppet is very rarely seen. He was made in the mid 1950's and this one is on the short control with coloured buffers.
The brown suit is very good, one small mark on the trousers, the double felt belt and strap have a little wear, the strap doubles round his middle and has a small pouch on the side.
He has a good face with strong features for the character. There is crackling to the paint around the neck area.
He has some wear to his shoes.
The flaw with the condition of the puppet is the fur from the headpiece has disintegrated away from the backing. The hair is painted. The head piece could perhaps be replaced with a new piece of brown rabbit fur or similar. This item looks excellent for a collector to use for restoration I think, but the old glue holding the fur cap on would need softening with heat before new fur could be re glued with hide/animal glue. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182820776698
The screw eyes are clean and bright suggesting no damp storage.
He has small composition hands.
The box is stamped SL Davy Crockett faintly in large red letters and is in very shelf worn/aged condition. It has splits at the ends also.
Two leaflets are included, the 'New anti tangling device' letter and a letter to join the Pelpup Club.
