Type SM Hank, the Cowboy is a rare character from the 1950's TV series Whirligig.
He has an opening mouth but is not like any other puppet Pelham made. The mouth string is tied to an eyelet at the top of the control, it passes up through his head. The mouth is usually not seen on display as he has a large moustache covering it!
He has a large composition head and oversized hands.
This puppet is in very good condition with minor ageing. Often the guns are lost, unsurprisingly, but he has both. These are sometimes strung with an added black string to his hands and can be placed in the felt holster at the back. This puppet has his guns loose in his holster.
Hank wears blue jeans and a suedette material shirt, the same material that was used for an early horse, Muffin the Mule and early versions of Jiminy Cricket. It deteriorates over time and this one shows some sign of ageing on the creases.
The oversized felt hat is good but does have some moth damage. There is a very small moth hole in the brown felt holster and in the jeans underneath, unseen, but shown in the image for you to see.
The felt tongue has no damage.
The scarf has some frayed edges.
The puppet has wool hair and a thin moustache, the moustache was loose in the box and has been reglued with a water based adhesive by the previous owner I am told.
The guns are in excellent condition with no paint rubs. The guns could be tied with the extra black string to the hand eyelet on the control so that he can hold them as long as the string is long enough for them to also be placed in the holster at the back. The hand holes are quite small so you would need a thin needle to thread the extra thread through.
The original box is very shelf worn. It has the Hank label to the lid and is stamped correctly one end.
*There is one small knot in leg string*
